Test accuracy using a scope-based feeling test for sleep apnea

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older, and you’ve been sent to a sleep lab for an initial sleep study because OSA is suspected.
  • You are willing to take part in the study and follow the testing instructions.
  • Your baseline oxygen level while awake is 88% or higher during the oxygen check.
  • Your initial sleep study (polysomnography) must be usable/valid for interpreting results, and it should be done within 15 days of the feeling test.
  • You should not have a condition or recent event that could interfere with throat/brain nerve responses (such as recent brain injury, stroke, certain nerve/muscle disorders, or recent throat/pharynx/face surgery).
  • You should not have some specific causes of sleep breathing pauses (more than 5% central-type events), or recent/active throat infection, cancer in the throat area, or certain ongoing treatments like high-dose oral steroids.
