Who can take part

  • You are right-handed
  • You have a diagnosis of major depression (a clinician-confirmed diagnosis)
  • Your depression severity score is at least moderate on common symptom scales (MADRS and HDRS)
  • You tried at least one full course of antidepressant medicine (over 6 weeks) but it didn’t work well, or you couldn’t tolerate it
  • You do not have major brain injury (significant head trauma) or certain nervous system conditions
  • You can take part safely in rTMS and brain scans (fMRI), meaning no metal implants/pacemakers and not pregnant
