Who can take part
- You are over 18 years old and can give oral consent
- You have type 1 diabetes, or you are a non-diabetic control (trial compares groups)
- Your HbA1c blood sugar average is between 6% and 9%
- Your kidney function test is mostly preserved (usually high filtration rate; for the macro group it can be lower but still above a cutoff)
- Your urine albumin level must match the group you’re screened for (normal vs micro vs macro)
- You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and your BMI must be 30 or lower
