Who can take part
- You are 18 to 65 years old
- You have bipolar I or bipolar II disorder, confirmed by an interview (SCID) and your records/people who know you
- Right now, your depressive episode is fairly severe (MADRS score 25 or higher)
- Your depression has not responded to at least two past mood-stabilizer and/or antidepressant trials (each about 6+ weeks), with less than 50% improvement
- Your C-reactive protein (CRP) blood test is above 5 mg/L, which can mean more body inflammation
- You must be able to consent, speak English well enough for questionnaires, and follow study visits and tests
