Who can take part

  • You are between 22 and 70 years old.
  • You have bipolar II disorder with a current depression episode lasting at least 1 year that hasn't improved with treatment.
  • You are stable on a mood stabilizing medication like lithium or valproate, or an atypical antipsychotic, for at least 2 weeks before starting.
  • You have not had a manic or hypomanic episode in the last 2 years.
  • You have tried or been advised to try electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) without lasting success.
  • You are willing and able to undergo brain surgery for device implantation and attend multiple study visits.
