Who can take part

  • You’re 10 to 17 years old and have knee cartilage damage causing symptoms (pain and/or trouble using the knee).
  • Imaging shows a specific kind of cartilage defect (Grade III or IV) on the thigh-bone area (femoral condyles) and/or the knee’s groove (trochlea).
  • The defect is large enough (at least 1.5 square centimeters) and is the right type for this treatment (certain bone-involved defects may qualify if bone graft isn’t needed).
  • Your knee is stable: the main ligaments (ACL and PCL) must be intact and not overly loose; any needed ligament procedures must be done before screening.
  • Your meniscus is mostly present: at least 50% of the functional meniscus must remain (meniscus treatment may be done if the surgeon can confirm enough will remain).
  • You can sign consent (and follow study visits and rehab); you haven’t had other non-diagnostic knee surgery in the last 6 months.
