Who can take part

  • You are over 21 years old
  • You have limited use of your arms/upper body due to a qualifying condition (like stroke, ALS, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, myopathy, or severe nerve problems)
  • Your disability is significant enough to lose independence and daily living abilities (Modified Rankin Scale score 4 or higher)
  • If your condition is stroke or spinal cord injury, at least 1 year has passed since symptoms began
  • You live within 2 hours of UCSF and can attend follow-up visits
  • You can read/understand English and give informed consent
