Who can take part
- Your esophagus cancer is squamous cell type (not another cell type)
- Your tumor is in the chest part of the esophagus
- Your cancer is stage II or III before treatment (not stage I or stage IV)
- You have not had any prior cancer treatment yet
- You must be able to have surgery after the pre-surgery chemo and radiation
- You need good overall health: age 18–65, not pregnant, and blood/organ tests and daily functioning are adequate
