Who can take part
- You are being treated at the VUMC Adult Trauma Unit for a serious injury
- Or you are admitted for an elective, higher–bleeding-risk surgery at VUMC/VCH
- Or you are a healthy volunteer age 18–70 with a weight over 110 pounds
- For healthy volunteers: no ongoing medical conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure
- For healthy volunteers: not pregnant (or on hormone replacement), and not taking blood thinners or NSAIDs
- There are no listed exclusions for the trauma or elective surgery groups
