Who can take part

  • Be age 6 months to 26 years at the time consent is signed
  • Have a qualifying blood cancer with low blast counts (exact cutoff depends on diagnosis) or certain MDS after induction chemotherapy
  • Plan to receive a donor stem cell transplant from a donor matched at 8/8 genetic markers (HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1) and use bone marrow (BM) or collected stem cells (PBSC), not cord blood
  • Have heart and lung function tests that meet limits (heart pumping strength and lung test results or oxygen level on room air)
  • Have blood chemistry and kidney/liver tests within allowed ranges (or be judged okay by specialists if slightly high)
