Who can take part

  • You have acute leukemia (ALL or AML) or MDS, and it must be in remission with low marrow blasts (under 5%).
  • If you have MDS with higher blasts (about 5% or more), you must have received blood-cancer treatment to reduce blasts within the last 3 months.
  • You are age 1 to 60, and you have a matched donor (related or unrelated) who can donate stem cells by apheresis (PBSC).
  • Your planned transplant must be an intensive type with chemo, and it may include TBI; your study team must consider you a good candidate for it.
  • Your body can handle transplant: no major heart, lung, kidney, or liver problems based on the study’s lab/scan cutoffs.
  • You generally cannot have certain exclusions such as active uncontrolled infection, pregnancy/breast-feeding, prior myeloablative transplant, or HIV/HTLV infections.
