- Be 18 to 90 years old
- If you had a stroke: it must be chronic (more than 6 months ago)
- If you had a stroke: brain scans should show the stroke area (a lesion)
- Be able to understand instructions and carry out simple commands
- If you had a stroke: you must be able to voluntarily move the affected arm (not complete paralysis)
- Avoid certain issues like substance abuse or major uncontrolled psychiatric problems
