Surgery plan for pain or skin problems in a healed leg stump

Who can take part

  • You are 18–65 years old.
  • You have already had a standard above-knee (AKA) or below-knee (BKA) amputation.
  • You have ongoing stump symptoms like severe pain or worsening skin around the stump.
  • Your current stump skin and wound are healing well (no signs of poor healing).
  • You can communicate clearly, and you’re highly motivated to follow the study plan.
  • You are able to have surgery with standard anesthesia (heart/lung health is adequate).

Nerve surgery for pain after cancer amputation

This study tests two surgical techniques—target muscle re-innervation and regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces—alone or together, to help reduce pain felt in the remaining limb or the missing limb (phantom pain) after amputation for cancer.
