Trial to reduce radiation fields in p16+ oropharyngeal cancer

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older and can sign consent
  • You have a p16-positive squamous cell cancer in the throat area (oropharynx: tonsil, soft palate, base of tongue, or nearby throat walls)
  • Your cancer is at stage T1 to T3 and lymph node stage N1 to N2 (not N0 or N3, and not stage Ib node involvement)
  • Your overall health allows cancer treatment: you can do most activities (ECOG 0–2) and blood and organ tests meet limits
  • You have no prior head and neck cancer in the last 5 years and no prior head and neck radiation ever
  • You must be able to complete the full radiation course and follow-up visits; you can’t be pregnant or breastfeeding
