Who can take part

  • You have newly diagnosed oropharynx (throat) cancer confirmed on biopsy, and it can be surgically removed
  • Your cancer is p16-positive (a lab test on tumor tissue that suggests HPV involvement)
  • Your scans show no spread to distant organs (no distant metastasis)
  • You have good physical strength/health scores (ECOG 0–1 or Karnofsky 80–100)
  • You have no major prior radiation above the collarbone area
  • You can safely have surgery through the mouth without needing a free-flap reconstruction
