Who can take part

  • You are having jaw surgery at UNC, and your bite issue is an open bite, underbite, or overjet greater than 5 mm
  • You are between 15 and 40 years old
  • You do not have hearing loss
  • You were taught English as your main language (not English as a second language)
  • Your speech has no major regional accent that a speech pathologist says is significant for the study
  • You do not have developmental delay or a craniofacial condition/syndrome/trauma, and you have not had craniofacial surgery before (except tooth/dental procedures)
  • You have fixed braces or fixed orthodontic appliances during the jaw surgery phase
