Testing stem cell “package” therapy for severe skin blistering

Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa

This early-stage study tests stem cell–derived “extra-cellular vesicles” (small natural cell packages) to help heal painful skin wounds in people with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB). If you have suitable, untreated wounds and meet the safety requirements, you may be able to join and help researchers learn whether this treatment is beneficial.

Who can take part

  • Be at least 6 months old at the time of screening
  • Have a confirmed DEB diagnosis from genetic testing or special skin testing
  • Have two similar open skin wounds for at least 4 weeks, each about 10–50 cm² and at least 4 inches apart
  • Avoid non-routine treatments on the two study wounds for the past 3 months, except standard care (infection control, numbing/pain medicine if needed)
  • Females who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test and agree to effective birth control
  • Be willing and able to follow study rules and visits
