Less IV fluids for children after trauma

Who can take part

  • Be between 6 months and under 15 years old and be admitted for trauma to the pediatric ICU
  • Go to the pediatric ICU either from the emergency room, from surgery, or from another hospital’s emergency room (within 12 hours)
  • Not be expected to leave the pediatric ICU within 24 hours
  • Do not have certain heart conditions that need surgery or specific heart medicines, or long-term heart problems like rhythm problems
  • Not have a serious brain injury from the trauma, need blood pressure medicine (vasopressors) to keep blood pressure up, or start a massive transfusion protocol
