Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are admitted to the ICU for a medical or surgical emergency, or a complication from a planned surgery.
- Your doctor thinks you will still need ICU care in two days.
- You are expected to need at least 1 liter of maintenance fluids or 300 mL of fluid creep within the first day.
- You do not have a condition that makes it unsafe to receive diluted (hypotonic) fluids, like a recent brain injury or stroke.
