Who can take part

  • You are an adult having planned elective surgery on the front part of the foot (forefoot).
  • Your surgery is planned using regional anesthesia (a targeted numbing nerve block), not general anesthesia.
  • Your overall health category is ASA I, II, or III (most people with mild to moderate health issues).
  • You are willing to participate (you have not refused the study).
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have any of these exclusions: a neuromuscular disorder, bleeding/clotting problems (coagulopathy), allergy to local anesthetic medicines, a prior surgery in the popliteal area behind the knee, or a skin infection where the needle would go.
