Who can take part
- You have confirmed isolated adductor laryngeal dystonia (voice spasms), and no other type of dystonia or tremor.
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You speak native English and are right-handed.
- You must have normal thinking/memory based on a brief test (Montreal Cognitive Assessment).
- Your voice symptoms are active right now (not “at rest”), and you’re at least 3 months past any botulinum toxin (Botox) injection—your treatment must not have fully controlled symptoms.
- You cannot have certain health issues: past stroke/other neurological disorders, major psychiatric conditions, other larynx conditions (like vocal fold paralysis), or hearing/vision/speaking problems unrelated to your dystonia.
- You must be able to give informed consent; you cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You must not take medications that affect the brain (central nervous system), and you must not have a deep brain stimulator or history of brain/head-neck surgery (including laryngeal procedures like thyroplasty or laryngeal denervation).
