Robotic therapy timing to improve arm movement after stroke

Who can take part

  • Be 20 to 75 years old
  • Have had a first stroke on one side (either bleeding or a blockage) more than 3 months ago
  • Have moderate-to-severe weakness in one arm, based on an arm movement score (Fugl-Meyer score between 18 and 56)
  • Have no severe stiffness/spasticity in the affected arm joints (modified Ashworth score less than 3 at shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers)
  • Be able to follow directions and understand instructions (Mini-Mental State Exam score over 24)
  • Not have a recent arm fracture in the past 3 months, and not join other medication or rehab studies at the same time
