- You have a clinical diagnosis of insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes
- You are a man or a premenopausal woman
- Your average blood sugar is controlled enough (HbA1c is 12% or less)
- You do not have liver, heart, or kidney disease
- You do not have diabetes nerve problems (neuropathy)
- Your blood pressure is controlled (not above 140/90 even with treatment)
