Cochlear implant study for one-sided severe hearing loss

Who can take part

  • You are at least 5 years old when the implant surgery would happen
  • The ear to be implanted has very severe hearing loss on hearing tests
  • The other ear has normal or only mild-to-moderate hearing loss
  • The implanted ear understands very few words in quiet (about 5% or less)
  • You have a cochlear-nerve and a normally formed inner ear on scans—no missing or non-working nerve
  • You can speak and understand English well enough for testing
