This study looks at whether keeping some natural (residual) hearing in the implant ear can improve outcomes with a cochlear implant. If you fit their hearing and implant-device requirements, they’ll measure your hearing before and after implantation to see how well you can use that remaining hearing.

Who can take part
- You are 18–79 years old and agree to sign a consent form
- You have hearing loss in both ears that started after you learned speech (postlingual)
- You have tried hearing aids for at least 30 days and still get limited benefit
- The ear that will be implanted has low-frequency hearing of 55 dB HL or better
- The ear to be implanted has very poor hearing in higher pitches (mid-to-high frequencies)
- You are getting a Cochlear or Advanced Bionics implant device (not MED-EL)
