This study tests whether giving steroids right after spinal fusion surgery helps reduce pain and other symptoms during recovery. If you're over 50 and having this surgery at the OHSU Spine Center, you may be able to join.

Who can take part
- You are 50 years old or older.
- You are having spinal fusion surgery on your lower or mid back (thoracic or lumbar area) with a surgeon from the Oregon Health and Science University Spine Center.
- You are not currently taking steroids on a regular basis.
- You are not pregnant.
- You do not have severe difficulties making decisions for yourself.
