Study of scar differences after lumbar disc replacement

Who can take part

  • Be age 18 to 50 years
  • Have long-lasting low back pain from one or two worn disc levels (not from facet joint arthritis)
  • Pain pattern should get worse when bending forward (flexion) and with movement/pressure, not mainly when leaning back
  • Have an MRI showing disc problems at one or two lumbar levels, without signs of spine instability on X-rays
  • Have tried non-surgical care for at least 6 weeks, or have symptoms that are getting worse
  • Be able to follow follow-up visits and the after-surgery care plan
