Who can take part

  • You have a herniated disc in your lower back (between L4 and S1) that is pressing on a nerve.
  • You have leg pain (sciatica) that is at least moderate (40 out of 100 on a pain scale).
  • Your disc height at the problem area is at least 5mm.
  • You are getting a special device placed during surgery to close the hole in the disc.
  • You are not pregnant, do not have certain infections, autoimmune diseases, or cancer in the past 2 years.
  • You are not on blood thinners (other than aspirin) and do not have severe obesity (BMI over 40).
