Testing how PRF releases a bone growth medicine in the lab

This study uses a dental “blood-derived” material (PRF) and a bone-growth medicine (rhBMP-2) to see how the medicine releases over time. It’s an in-lab (in vitro) study, but it requires you to be a patient at UAB Dental School and be planning a usual periodontal procedure that involves drawing blood.

  • You speak and read English well enough to understand consent forms
  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are a patient of the UAB Dental School
  • Your usual planned periodontal care will use PRF, which includes a blood draw (venipuncture)
  • You are not a current heavy tobacco user (more than 10 cigarettes per day)
