Who can take part

  • You have a cancer diagnosis that has spread to the bone, shown on CT, MRI, or ultrasound
  • The tumor type is one of the allowed cancers (kidney, bladder/urothelial, prostate that no longer responds to hormone therapy, sarcoma, thyroid, colorectal, or melanoma)
  • You have one painful bone spot that can be treated with both freezing and SBRT, is 7 cm or smaller, and matches what imaging shows
  • Your pain from that bone spot is at least 4 out of 10 (and should be linked to the visible tumor on scans)
  • Your blood counts and clotting tests are high enough for the procedure (including platelets > 50,000 and INR < 1.5 within 6 weeks)
  • You cannot have had radiation/ablation/surgery to that same target spot before, and you must not be pregnant
