- You are 18 to 80 years old
- Your rectal cancer diagnosis was proven by biopsy from a colonoscopy
- The tumor was located close to the anus (within 12 cm by scope, or within 8 cm by imaging)
- After neoadjuvant (pre-surgery) treatment, exams and scans show no remaining tumor, and CEA blood test is normal
- Your heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and bone marrow function are good enough for surgery/anesthesia
- You can sign consent for this surgery and biopsy plan
