Brain-scan training to reduce medication-resistant voices

This study uses brain scans (MRI) and real-time feedback to help train the brain to reduce frequent, distressing auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) in people with schizophrenia. If you qualify, you may try a structured neurofeedback program while researchers track changes in your symptoms.

Who can take part

  • You have schizophrenia (as defined by DSM-5 diagnostic criteria).
  • You experience frequent auditory hallucinations (voices), judged on a standard symptom scale.
  • Your schizophrenia medications have been stable for at least 30 days.
  • You do not have a long-term brain/nerve problem (including seizure).
  • You can agree to join by signing informed consent that is free and voluntary.
  • You can attend MRI brain scans and tolerate the scan setting.
