Can brain scans help understand auditory hallucinations?

This study uses brain scans (MRI) to look at a part of the brain called the inferior colliculi in people with schizophrenia who hear voices. The goal is to learn more about why auditory hallucinations happen, which could lead to better treatments in the future.

Who can take part

  • You have signed a consent form and are covered by health insurance.
  • You have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, confirmed by a doctor, for 20 years or less.
  • You can read, write, and understand French.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or other metal implants that would make an MRI unsafe.
  • You are not deaf or at risk of suicide.
  • You have not used certain medications like anticholinergics recently.
  • You may or may not be hearing voices recently, depending on the study group.
