Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You are on a breathing machine and have ARDS (a severe lung problem causing low oxygen).
  • Your breathing trouble started less than a week ago, and the ARDS diagnosis was made within the last 3 days.
  • You must not have a severe brain injury, uncontrolled bleeding, or certain chronic lung diseases.
  • You cannot be on ECMO (a heart-lung bypass machine) or have a breathing muscle disease.
