Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older.
  • You have high blood pressure (treated with medication or a reading of 140/90 or higher in the past year).
  • You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgery that is not on your heart or brain, and will last at least 2 hours under general anesthesia.
  • You are at high risk for confusion after surgery (due to health status, other conditions, or frailty).
  • You have not had another surgery in the last 30 days, and you are not having a transplant, brain surgery, or surgery in a sitting position.
