Preventive radiation to the other breast after breast cancer surgery

This study looks at whether “preventive” radiation to your other (opposite) breast can lower the chance of future breast cancer in people at higher genetic risk. You must have had surgery for early-stage breast cancer and agree to avoid removing the other breast and ovaries.

Who can take part

  • You are female and between 30 and 70 years old
  • You have early-stage breast cancer (stage 0 to III), treated with lumpectomy or mastectomy within the past year
  • You have had sentinel or axillary lymph node surgery (sentinel or ALND) and your lymph node results are known
  • You carry a harmful (deleterious) gene change in BRCA1, BRCA2, or PALB2
  • You can safely receive radiation (no major radiation-blocking health problems) and you can get a breast MRI
  • You do NOT have metastatic breast cancer, and you have not had prior radiation to the breast/chest wall for non-treatment reasons
