ALS and related brain disease biospecimen biobank

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

This study builds a blood and spinal fluid (lumbar puncture) sample library from people with ALS, ALS-FTD, or similar neurodegenerative diseases. Your samples help researchers study these conditions, even if you are not receiving a new treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have ALS, ALS-FTD, or a similar neurodegenerative condition as diagnosed by a clinician
  • You (or your legally authorized person) are willing and able to sign consent
  • If you are participating because of family history, you do not have ALS or another motor neuron disease
  • If you have a family history, the affected relative must be a close blood relative (first, second, or third degree)
  • You can usually have blood draws and, if needed, a lumbar puncture you can safely tolerate
  • You do not have conditions that make symptoms likely from something else unrelated, or safety risks that prevent lumbar puncture
