This trial tests whether combining two immunotherapy medicines—cabozantinib and nivolumab—can shrink advanced melanoma or certain head-and-neck squamous cell cancers. It is mainly for people whose cancer has grown after prior PD-1 treatment.

Who can take part
- You have confirmed melanoma stage III/IV that can’t be removed, or squamous cell head-and-neck cancer that is recurrent (not curable) or has spread, and the tumor is in a specific throat/voicebox area for head-and-neck cases
- Your cancer has measurable disease, and it has progressed during or within 12 weeks after your last PD-1 (checkpoint) immunotherapy dose
- If you have HIV, your viral load must be undetectable on treatment; if you have hepatitis B or C, your virus levels must be undetectable recently
- You must be able to take pills by mouth and not have conditions that strongly suppress your immune system from steroids or other medicines
- You must have safe blood counts and organ function tests (bone marrow, liver, kidneys), based on results within about 28 days
- You must be willing/able to provide tumor samples (archival tissue and/or a research biopsy if needed) for lab testing
