This trial tests whether a simple “arm conditioning” technique done remotely before a procedure can help prevent kidney injury caused by contrast dye used during certain heart catheter tests. You might benefit if you’re having a coronary angiogram and your kidney function is reduced, but you’re not on dialysis.

Who can take part
- Be having a medical imaging/heart procedure where contrast dye is put into your bloodstream (like a coronary angiogram), but not emergency treatment for the most severe heart attack (STEMI)
- Have kidney function below 60 (ml/min/1.73 m²) but you are not in end-stage kidney disease (not ESRD)
- Be an adult (18 or older) and not on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
- Be able to do the remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) arm treatment on both arms (no limiting arm/hand conditions like major injury or wounds on both sides)
- Not be in another drug or device study at the same time, and you can allow follow-up visits about 6 weeks later
- Have written consent, and it must be possible to get your follow-up information; also avoid certain circulation disorders like Raynaud’s disease
