This trial tests a carefully tailored plan for managing blood pressure and fluid during and after kidney removal surgery, to help reduce kidney injury after surgery. It may be especially helpful if you’re having one kidney removed for cancer and your baseline heart/kidney risk is not too high.

Who can take part
- Be age 18 or older.
- Be scheduled for one of these surgeries: radical nephrectomy (kidney removal) for kidney cancer, or radical nephroureterectomy (kidney plus ureter removal) for upper-tract bladder/urothelial cancer.
- Not have very advanced long-term kidney problems (chronic kidney disease stage 4 or 5).
- Have blood pressure that is not dangerously high before surgery (not ≥180 top number or ≥110 bottom number).
- Have a relatively low heart risk for surgery and be able to do usual activities (not too limited in stamina).
- Be able to communicate with the study team (for example, not severe dementia or a major language barrier).
