Sitagliptin for relatives at risk of type 1 diabetes

This study tests whether sitagliptin can delay or prevent type 1 diabetes in people who have a close family member with type 1 diabetes and early “at-risk” blood test results. It focuses on relatives who have early immune markers and abnormal sugar testing, but are not yet diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Who can take part

  • Age 10 to 45 years
  • You (or a parent/guardian if under 18) can sign informed consent
  • You have a close relative with type 1 diabetes, and the relative fits specific age ranges
  • Blood tests show at least two diabetes-related autoantibodies, plus abnormal glucose on an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)
  • You agree not to join other treatment/vaccine trials during this study
  • For people who could become pregnant: negative pregnancy test and no attempts at pregnancy for at least 1 year

Study of immune-modulating drugs for new-onset type 1 diabetes

This study tests two different medications (Anti-Thymocyte Globulin and Adalimumab or Verapamil) to see if they can slow down the loss of insulin production in people with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the treatments and will be followed for about a year to see how well their bodies still make insulin.
