  • You have a thyroid biopsy result that is indeterminate or cancer-like (Bethesda category III, IV, V, or VI)
  • Your thyroid nodule measures 2 centimeters or smaller
  • You have never had thyroid surgery
  • You do not have a past history of thyroid cancer

This study is testing whether it is safe to simply monitor (watch closely) a small thyroid nodule that has a certain biopsy result (Bethesda IV) instead of removing it right away. You would not receive a treatment, but would have regular checkups and ultrasounds to see if the nodule changes.

This trial studies radiofrequency ablation, a procedure that shrinks a thyroid nodule, for thyroid nodules that are unclear on biopsy but have a reassuring “molecular” test. If you have a Bethesda III nodule that tests benign on specific genetic tests, you may be a good candidate to see if this approach helps safely.
