Estradiol to improve brain and reward changes in midlife women

This study tests whether a hormone called estradiol (given as a patch and pill) changes how the brain and body respond to reward in some midlife women with low pleasure and/or psychosis symptoms during menopause transition. It may help researchers understand whether estrogen treatment can improve mood-related “reward” function in this group.

Who can take part

  • Be a 44–55-year-old woman who is going through late menopause transition and has had at least two skipped periods (and at least 60 days without a period)
  • Have new or worsening low-pleasure symptoms (anhedonia) and/or psychosis-type symptoms that started when your periods became irregular
  • Score high enough on screening questionnaires to show your symptoms are affecting you in a clinically significant way
  • Be willing to follow the estradiol treatment plan for the study
  • Be able to sign consent, follow study visits/procedures, and stay available for the full study
