Personalized neck radiation using a lymph node sentinel biopsy

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older with a newly diagnosed squamous cell cancer of the oropharynx (throat), larynx, or hypopharynx
  • Your cancer has not spread to distant organs (M0) and involves lymph nodes only on the side(s) allowed by the study (N0 to N2b, or specific HPV+ patterns)
  • You’ve had full neck scans (CT or MRI) and a PET scan showing no cancer in lymph nodes on the opposite side
  • Your head and neck cancer team recommends cure-intent external-beam (chemo)radiotherapy, and if chemo is used it must be a platinum-based regimen
  • You can have the sentinel lymph node biopsy under general anesthesia (the surgeon says the tumor is reachable for the tracer injection and surgery)
