Study oxalate and citrate in people with and without kidney stones

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • Either you have had at least one calcium-based kidney stone, or you have never had a kidney stone.
  • If you have never had stones, your 24-hour urine oxalate must be within the lab’s normal range (under 50 mg/day).
  • You must be able to stop diuretic medicines or alkali supplements during the study (for the entire study period).
  • You should not have a history of uric acid, cystine, or struvite kidney stones.
  • Your urine citrate level should not be extremely low (under 100 mg/day) or extremely high (over 1500 mg/day).
