Who can take part

  • If you have spinal cord injury (SCI), you must be 1–5 months past the injury
  • SCI participants must be ages 18–85 and able to give consent
  • You (or your control group) must be between 18–85 years old
  • No recent major muscle injury or major surgery for healthy controls
  • You cannot be pregnant
  • You must not have medical risks that make electrical stimulation or MRI unsafe (or must be able to skip the MRI parts if only MRI is unsafe)
