This trial tests a noninvasive way to stimulate the spinal cord to help the body’s “automatic functions” (like bladder, bowel, and sexual function) after spinal cord injury. If you’ve had a stable, complete spinal cord injury for more than a year, you may be eligible to try this approach and help researchers evaluate recovery.

Who can take part

  • Live in British Columbia and have active BC provincial health coverage
  • Age 19 to 60, and your spinal cord injury is traumatic and non-progressive
  • Injury is complete motor paralysis at or above T6, and you’re at least 1 year after injury
  • Be stable since your last spinal surgery (at least 6 months ago) and your bladder/bowel/sexual function is affected
  • Not have serious active issues that could interfere (like infection, unhealed fractures, pressure sores, or painful musculoskeletal problems)
  • No ventilator dependence and meet major medical limits (like seizure history, pacemakers/implanted stimulators, or implanted electrodes)
