Who can take part

  • You have newly diagnosed AML (a type of leukemia) with an IDH1 or IDH2 mutation
  • You are not a candidate for, or you refuse, intensive “induction” chemotherapy
  • Your general functioning is good enough (ECOG 0–2)
  • Your kidneys and liver labs meet study limits (creatinine clearance > 40 and AST/ALT < 5× normal; bilirubin < 1.5× normal, with an exception for Gilbert’s disease)
  • Your blood counts at the time of starting venetoclax (WBC) must be under 25,000 per microliter, using hydroxyurea if needed
  • You can take the pills by mouth and are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
