Renal nerve stimulation for hard-to-control high blood pressure
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This trial tests whether stimulating nerves around the kidney can lower blood pressure in people whose high blood pressure stays uncontrolled despite treatment. It may help by improving how the kidneys and blood vessels regulate blood pressure.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are 20 to 80 years old
- Your 24-hour blood pressure average is higher than 130/80 mmHg
- Your kidney filtration (glomerular filtration rate) is above 45 mL/min
- CT angiography shows your kidney artery shape is suitable (main artery not too small and long enough)
- Your high blood pressure is not caused by a secondary cause (like certain hormone tumors or significant renal artery narrowing)

This trial tests a new way to perform a procedure called renal denervation, which uses radio waves to calm overactive kidney nerves that can raise blood pressure. By getting feedback during the procedure, doctors hope to make the treatment more effective for people with high blood pressure.
This trial tests a procedure that targets nerves near the kidney (renal denervation) to help lower blood pressure in people whose hypertension is not controlled despite medication. It uses a special 3D mapping system to guide the procedure.
This trial tests a procedure that uses a catheter through the wrist or thigh to quiet overactive nerves in the kidney artery. It aims to lower blood pressure in people whose high blood pressure stays uncontrolled despite using multiple blood pressure medicines.
This trial tests a procedure called renal denervation to lower blood pressure in people whose medication isn't enough. It uses a special catheter to calm nerves near the kidneys that may be overactive.
This trial tests a procedure called renal denervation (using a catheter to calm overactive kidney nerves) to lower blood pressure in people who have recently had a stroke. It may help prevent future strokes and improve recovery.
This trial tests a procedure that uses heat to disrupt nerves in the kidney arteries to lower blood pressure. Participants must have high blood pressure and be willing to temporarily stop their blood pressure medications to see if the procedure works alone.
