Who can take part

  • You are having heart bypass (coronary artery bypass graft) and/or valve replacement surgery.
  • You must not be pregnant.
  • You should have only one type of surgery in this study (not multiple different procedure types).
  • After surgery, you should not have major complications like stroke or breathing failure that require a hospital stay longer than 2 weeks.
  • You must be able to do the cardiopulmonary exercise test (an exercise test for heart/lung function).
